Adam J. Ruttenberg, Esq. has been awarded the BBA Bankruptcy Section's Special Achievement Award for his outstanding efforts in connection with changes to Consumer Finance regulations, which recently yielded significant reforms by the Attorney General's Office.
Over a period of years, Adam dedicated countless hours to determining which corrective measures would effectively protect consumers from the use of modern technologies—voice mails, cell phone calls, text messages—in debt collection activities by creditors who crossed the line into unfair and deceptive practices. Under his leadership, the Consumer Finance Working Group proposed reform for changes to specific rules to better protect consumers, with Adam giving freely of his time, testifying at a public hearing at the Attorney General’s office in support of the recommendations. Eight of the ten recommendations issued were ultimately adopted by Attorney General Martha Coakley. "We are pleased to see that the Attorney General's new proposed regulations incorporate almost all of the substantive changes that our working group recommended," said Ruttenberg.
In honoring Adam for his connection to changing Consumer Finance regulations, which will serve to better the lives of the people of the Commonwealth, the section bestowed only the fourth Special Achievement Award in twelve years.
Congratulations, Adam!
