Katherine Potter concentrates her practice in all areas of domestic relations including divorce, custody, adoption, child support, paternity, guardianships, and representation of non-traditional families. Kate is a member of the Boston Bar Association’s Family Law Section Steering Committee and has been involved in the Massachusetts Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), an international interdisciplinary organization of lawyers, judges and mental health professionals dedicated to improving the court process for children. Kate is also a member of the Massachusetts Family and Probate American Inn of Court and the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association.
Prior to joining Looney & Grossman, Kate held the position of Assistant Judicial Case Manager at the Suffolk Probate and Family Court where she was responsible for managing court sessions, preparing cases for the judges, and assisting attorneys and pro se litigants with substantive and procedural issues. Through her work with the court system, Kate has significant experience with handling probate matters such as will contests, estate accountings and appointment of fiduciaries.
Kate developed an expertise in child welfare law through her thirteen years as an attorney for the Department of Children and Families (formerly the “Department of Social Services”). Kate is a 1990 graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and a 1982 cum laude graduate of Regis College. After graduating from law school, Kate worked as a law clerk on both the Superior Court and the Appeals Court of Massachusetts.
For over ten years, Kate has served as a mentor through the Big Sister Association of Boston and, in 2009, Kate was named a “Big Sister of the Year” for her dedicated service. |
