Alexander D. Jones, Esq. is one of five expert faculty members at the MCLE's upcoming panel, "Jurisdictional Issues in Domestic Relations Practice:
Analyzing and litigating interstate divorce, custody, and support cases". The
panel's objective is to familiarize family law practitioners with
the important concepts in jurisdictional domestic relations practice,
including the circumstances under which Massachusetts may properly exercise personal and/or subject matter jurisdiction over particular disputes, and the rules for deciding competing jurisdictional claims.
Topics include:
How to address child custody and child support issues in divorce settlements in order to anticipate potential future jurisdictional issues, and a discussion of recent case law and the "Traps for the Unwary" in interstate proceedings involving UCCJA, UIFSA, and FFCCSOA.
