Edward V. Colbert III has extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation. Ed’s practice often involves business disputes and government enforcement actions. He represents individuals and businesses in contractual, employment, personal injury, and professional liability cases. Ed has represented developers and landowners in real estate and construction disputes, as well as corporate shareholders, officers, and directors in complex business disputes.

In recent years, Ed has been involved in several cases of public import, including the Clean Elections lawsuit before the Supreme Judicial Court and the Cost Recovery claims relating to the Big Dig in Boston.

Prior to joining Looney and Grossman LLP, Ed was an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Since joining the firm, he has continued to serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth. Ed is admitted to the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and United States District Court of Massachusetts, and practices in both state and federal court.

Ed is active in the Boston Bar Association. In 2008, he was appointed to the Boston Bar Association Planning Committee, which established the strategic plan for the organization. Ed has also served as Co-Chair of the Litigation Section, and as Co-Chair of the Task Force on Confidential Settlement Agreements.

Ed’s public service record includes having served as the legal representative on the Governor's Task Force on Fire and Building Safety, formed in response to the Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island in 2003. He was also Special Advisor to the Chairman of the Governor's Commission on Correction Reform in Massachusetts and continues to be called upon to act as counsel to political campaign committees in election and campaign matters. Ed serves on the Public Works Building Committee for the Town of Hingham, and is a Class Agent for Phillips Exeter Academy.

Ed was born in Melrose, Massachusetts, attended Wesleyan University (B.A. 1989), and received his law degree from Suffolk Law School (cum laude, 1994).
