Maritime Law – Navigating the Seas
October 16, 2008

Please join Patrick O. McAleer, Esq., at the “Maritime Law – Navigating the Seas Seminar.” The seminar will present maritime basics and industry trends. Experts will discuss admiralty jurisdiction and highlight vessel-related topics that fall outside admiralty. The program addresses overlapping federal, state, and local regulations administered, for example, by the Coast Guard, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and Harbormasters. Complex topics, such as those involving seafarer’s personal injury litigation are identified so that the unsuspecting can avoid keelhauling. Financing basics, vessel arrest, and limitation of liability proceedings are also explained. The seminar also expounds the marine insurance basics so that the complicated jargon can be comprehended. The program offers explanations concerning issues affecting anyone involved with boats, admiralty and maritime jurisdiction under the U.S. Constitution, maritime contracts and torts, federal statutes and case law, P & I insurance, the “personification of the vessel,” maritime lien priorities, and Fed.R.Civ.P’s Supplemental Rules for Admiralty or Maritime Claims. This program will be presented from 2 to 5 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the MCLE Conference Center in Boston.
